How to Test Your Detector

To ensure your alarm functions correctly, follow these three simple steps: 1. First, place the batteries in a clean air environment. Press the test button for five seconds to check the unit’s electronics; a normal beep indicates proper function. 2. Allow the detector to remain in clean air for one minute. 3. Finally, seal the device in a bag, spray it with smoke or CO gas, and seal it tightly. After about one minute, your alarm should activate if it’s operating normally.

Note: Testing via direct burning beneath the alarm is invalid and should not be done.

Silencing the Alarm

When your smoke alarm beeps, use the test/silence button to mute the device temporarily. If you wish to exit this mute mode, press the button again, or the alarm will automatically revert to normal after approximately six minutes or when clear air is detected. For a carbon monoxide alarm, silence can only be achieved in clean air conditions; if CO levels remain high, the alarm will persist until the air is purified.

Important Note: If the unit beeps continuously, it might indicate a malfunction. To remedy this, reinstall the battery and repeat testing until the unit operates correctly.
